Bowmore STAC Shatters Records and Changes Lives at Edinburgh Charity Auction
Today’s Distillers One of One auction at Hopetoun House near Edinburgh, in collaboration with Sotheby’s, shattered records with the sale of Bowmore STAC. Distilled in 1962 and rocking a 41% ABV, this singular malt was aged in second-fill American oak and housed in Bowmore’s legendary No.1 Vaults.
Its presentation?
A vessel mimicking the rugged island terrain. On the palate, expect a nuanced symphony of orchard fruits, clover honey, tropical notes, and oceanic undertones.
The real headliner?
The auction’s proceeds fuel The Youth Action Fund, a Distillers’ Charity initiative targeting Scotland’s disadvantaged youth. Partnering with charities offering educational and vocational programs—including distillation training—the fund aims to arm young Scots with essential life skills.
This auction, now in its sophomore year, showcased 39 unparalleled whiskies and unique experiences, aiming to rake in over £1 million.
Robbie Millar of Beam Suntory emphasized the historic significance of the Bowmore STAC sale. “This milestone reaffirms Bowmore’s standing among global collectors and connoisseurs, while underscoring our long-term commitment to supporting Scottish communities,” Millar said.
Jonny Fowle, Sotheby’s global whisky honcho, added: “Bowmore STAC is a game-changer. It’s not just a whisky; it’s a magnum opus in both design and philanthropy.”
