Benromach’s Groundbreaking Organic Whisky: A Speyside Revolution from Field to Flask
“We’ve maintained a decade-long partnership in barley cultivation and annual organic whisky production,” notes Benromach Distillery Manager Keith Cruickshank in a promotional video. “Obtaining barley exclusively from one farm significantly improves the traceability and origin of our spirit. It’s also advantageous to have the farm so close to our Speyside distillery.”
Auchlunkart Farm, managed by Gordon Morrison (Cruickshank’s brother-in-law), champions organic practices. Certified by the Soil Association and fueled by renewable energy, the farm also utilizes by-products from the distillery for crop fertilization.
Reflecting on the farm’s 18-year organic journey, Morrison expresses pride in adopting a more natural approach to farming, reminiscent of methods used by his grandfather. “”Our partnership with Benromach establishes a reliable location for our barley,” he states, “guaranteeing that the entire process of the grain’s transportation from the farm to the bottle can be traced and is environmentally friendly.”
Benromach Contrasts: Organic, with a 46% ABV, is now available for whisky enthusiasts at benromach.com/shop, Master of Malt, and the Whisky Exchange, priced at £54.99.
