Benromach’s Daring Fusion: A Whisky Aged in Bourbon and Bordeaux
Bold Experimentation Defines Benromach’s Latest Whisky Release
Benromach Distillery, a Speyside institution known for its innovative spirit, has unveiled its most recent foray into experimental whiskies: a 12-year-old single malt with a twist. This distinctive expression has journeyed through a dual maturation process, initially resting in prime first-fill bourbon casks, followed by a transformative five-year period in Bordeaux red wine barrels.
The creative force behind this fusion is Keith Cruickshank, Benromach’s Distillery Manager, who spearheaded the endeavor to enrich their lightly peated malt with an extra layer of complexity. “We’ve been on a thrilling ride crafting this new addition to our Contrasts series. This whisky not only showcases a harmonious blend of sweet and smoky but also boasts a vibrant, richer hue, all thanks to the double maturation,” said Cruickshank.
Available at specialist whisky shops, the Benromach Double Matured Bordeaux Wine Cask Finish stands at 46% ABV and retails for £59.99. It continues the distillery’s legacy of the Contrasts range, which previously featured such innovative varieties as Peat Smoke, Cara Gold Malt, and the unique oak-treated pair of Kiln Dried and Air Dried.
