Maison Martell’s Réserve du Château: A Tricentennial Cognac Journey Begins
Maison Martell, the esteemed Cognac house, has just unveiled the inaugural edition of its Réserve du Château collection, titled L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup. This Cognac is set to hit the market in January 2024, with a retail price tag of €6,900 (US$7,427).
Crafted by Martell’s celebrated cellar master, Christophe Valtaud, the Cognac is a masterful blend of over 1,400 eaux-de-vie from Cognac’s four esteemed terroirs. It boasts a maturation process held within the historic walls of the Martell family’s Château de Chanteloup.
Each eaux-de-vie was meticulously selected and aged in barrels crafted from 300-year-old French oak sourced from the renowned forests of Forêt de la Braconne and Foret de Bercé.
Valtaud himself describes this Cognac as a tangible embodiment of a three-century pursuit of excellence, making it a true collector’s treasure.
A Symphony of Flavors
Réserve du Château de Chanteloup features a symphony of scents – iris, wild carnation, and honeysuckle – that segue into opulent red and black fruit notes, with cherry and blackcurrant essences, complemented by a subtle spicy undertone.
As it evolves, the Cognac unveils earthy and ‘rancio’ characteristics, with sandalwood and cedar nuances paying homage to the age-old French oak casks that cradle it.
The Presentation: A Work of Art
The Cognac is encased in an exquisite decanter, a creation of the renowned crystal manufacturer, Maison Baccarat, symbolizing a single drop of Cognac. Enhancing its luxury appeal, the decanter is presented in a wooden box, accompanied by two stoppers and a booklet narrating the story of the liquid.
A Limited Global Offering
Only 1,000 decanters of this exquisite Cognac will be available worldwide, to be sold at selected luxury retailers.
The Réserve du Château collection is poised to be an annual tribute to Maison Martell’s heritage, which dates back to 1715. Each year’s release will partner with a different French château for the final maturation of the liquid, celebrating the brand’s rich history.
