Sweet Delights at the 14th Hamrun Chocolate Festival in Malta
The city of Hamrun, just behind the port area of Valletta, hosts this year’s 14th edition of the Hamrun Chocolate Festival, scheduled for Saturday, 19 October 2024. The event will take place on the main street – St. Joseph High Street – and in the adjacent streets from 6 pm.
We are in the heart of Malta, where the traditions of the past meet the innovative uses of chocolate as an ingredient for food and art. During live demonstrations, the best chefs, bakers, and chocolatiers present to the many visitors (the last edition saw 25,000 visitors) chocolate creations and recipes to try first-hand.
There is also space for a wide variety of creative applications, including chocolate painting on canvas, chocolate tattoos and body painting, sculptures, and much more, without forgetting an exhibition on the history of this product and its consumption in past eras. Among the Maltese historical artifacts on chocolate, there is, in fact, an interesting manuscript from the 17th century by Giovan Francesco Buonamico (the Treatise on Chocolate), who prepared some recipes that are offered to the public during the Chocolate Festival.
In addition to the tastings of cocoa specialties, the event has music, games for children, and entertainment for adults. All of these elements are punctuated by musical performances.
