Barbaresco Autinbej 2015 Cantina Ca’ del Baio tasting notes and review
The Barbaresco Autinbej 2015 Cantina Ca’ del Baio is a solid wine that does not disappoint and that offers a certain elegance and an old-style austerity that is always a pleasure to find. It is a red wine already very ethereal, crunchy due to its acidity, with powerful tannins and splendid aromas of wild berries, watermelon, licorice, and violet.
It is not a wine that will make your jaw drop or that focuses on intense tannins, on the contrary, its delicate tannic texture is powerful but velvety. No, what makes the wine titillating and compelling to drink is the pulp, the juiciness of the fruit, which sometimes vaults into a little too much austerity. But it is certainly not a defect, with a few more years of aging, it will reach balance and harmony. Let us not forget that this is a Barbaresco 2015; in practice, it is a newborn.
At least 6–7 years are needed to develop its aromatic potential and amalgamate all the hard parts. Nevertheless, we like this Nebbiolo precisely because of its savory-acid grit.
How is 2015 Barbaresco Autinbej Cantina Ca ’del Baio made?
Rigorous selection of the grapes, which are harvested by hand, destemmed, and pressed. The maceration on the skins is done in steel for 15 days, followed by fermentation, of course, with native yeasts. The wine is aged for two years in large oak barrels according to tradition, so there is no barrique doping. Four months of rest in the bottle follow, and then the wine is put on the market.
The bouquet of the 2015 Barbaresco Autinbej Cantina Ca ’del Baio
A typical, candid, pungent nose with black currant, watermelon, mineral notes, pepper, truffle, and beautiful licorice returns. The variety is good, it is already launched in an interesting ethereal development that adds an elegant touch to the aromatic picture. It is not explosive or particularly intense, but it does its duty.
What does the 2015 Barbaresco Autinbej Cantina Ca ’del Baio taste like?
Tense and juicy on the palate, it moves with a brisk pace and pulls straight without much slackness, or indecision, but above all, it has a nice rhythm and a delicious salty undertone. The structure is not massive, more pointed toward finesse and freshness, as befits a noble Barbaresco. Tannins of substance that open in a rainbow of earthy flavors and give good sipping persistence. With earthy and blackberry notes and a salty finish.
