Viña VIK’s Exclusive NFT Release: A Vintage Revolution in Fine Wine Ownership
Viña VIK unveiled its signature wine, VIK, at La Place de Bordeaux this past March. Now, the vineyard is announcing an exclusive offering: 50 double-magnums of the acclaimed 2018 vintage, available as NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).
An NFT purchase grants ownership of a digital asset that can be traded or redeemed for the physical product—a double magnum of VIK 2018. One distinct advantage of wine NFTs lies in their traceability, allowing owners to track their wine’s location.
Each NFT carries an exclusive signature verifying its authenticity, a feature that enhances its market appeal for items with substantial collectible worth, such as fine wines.
Owners of the NFT receive a specialized digital token, solidifying their product ownership and guaranteeing its integrity.
VIK’s esteemed chief winemaker, Cristian Vallejo, will oversee the double magnums, stored in the vineyard’s cellar. They will receive meticulous care until the buyer chooses to collect them, an option available immediately upon purchase.
The selected wine is the highly-praised VIK 2018 edition.
Due to its rare nature, this VIK 2018 Limited Edition will only be available as an NFT, purchasable directly from VIK’s digital platform or at their Millahue winery. It will not be found in retail stores. Each NFT will cost 750 MATIC (around £366 at the current rate).
Colin Hay had the privilege of tasting the wine, providing the following notes, along with those for the 2019 edition (released through La Place in March):
Tasting notes
VIK 2018
(Cachapoal Valley, Chile; 75% Cabernet Sauvignon; 25% Cabernet Franc; aged 20 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in Barroir barrels; 14.5% alcohol). A vin de garde with immediate appeal, benefiting from the double magnum format. Aromatically expressive, blending wild herbs, crushed petals, and spicy notes with red stone fruit. Accents of tapenade, wood smoke, clove, cinnamon, and vanilla. Hyper-refined tannins lend elegance, hiding the power and aging potential. Excellent finish. Rating: 666, the number of the yeast!
VIK 2019
23% Cabernet Franc; aged 20 months in French oak barrels and 6 months in Barroir barrels; 14.5% alcohol). Viscous and translucent, with a lifted nose and floral and herbal notes, accompanied by tobacco, tapenade, baking spices, vanilla, dark stone fruits, sultana, and fig. Fine-grained tannins slowly build, outlining the structure. Eucalyptus and menthol coolness combine with saline minerality on the finish. Oak needs time, but the quality is huge!
