The Belfast Distillery Company and Goldenblue have signed a deal for the shipment of 10,000 bottles of McConnell’s Irish Whiskey
With £8 million in financing from the New Deal for Northern Ireland, economic development agency Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) has expanded its worldwide presence, creating an office in Seoul to support the deal.
Minister for Northern Ireland Steve Baker MP said in a statement, “With its ambitious export goals, Belfast Distillery Company is now selling its goods in over 30 countries, with its recent achievement proving how UK Government investment is helping Invest NI promote Northern Ireland firms on the world stage.”
The following is more from Baker, who recently traveled to the Invest NI South Korea office: “I hope the brilliant success of the Belfast Distillery team can help inspire others to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Invest NI’s new international locations and I thank the New Deal for helping to promote some of the unbelievable talent and expertise that Northern Ireland has to offer.”
This arrangement with Korea is a major step forward for our company,” said Dessie Roche, commercial manager at Belfast Distillery Company. We leveraged the in-market experience of Invest NI’s staff in Seoul to create a relationship with Goldenblue, which has helped us obtain our initial entry into Korea and ultimately launch our product to this substantial new market.
Besides its own premium South Korean whisky, Goldenblue also distributes Kavalan and Old Castle.
The Belfast Distillery Company announced in August 2018 that they would be investing £22.3 million in a new McConnell’s distillery and visitor center in the city of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
