Renowned Domaine l’Infernal Joins Belondrade Legacy, Ushering New Epoch in Wine Mastery
In early 2023, Domaine l’Infernal, a renowned property and vineyard in Torroja, transitioned to new ownership. The Belondrade family, celebrated for their expertise in barrel-fermented Spanish whites, has taken the reins. Didier Belondrade, a prominent figure in the DO Rueda wine scene, along with his son Jean, are set to infuse their passion and vision into this esteemed estate.
Belondrade y Lurton wine, cultivated at the organically-farmed Quinta San Diego estate, commands a price of approximately €42 per bottle, reflecting its premium quality.
The founders of Domaine l’Infernal, Laurent Combier (Domain Combier, Crozes Hermitage), Peter Fischer (Chateau Revelette, Aix-en-Provence), and Jean-Michel Gérin (Domain Gérin, Côte-Rotie), expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement. Having nurtured the estate for a quarter of a century, they are thrilled to hand it over to Didier and Jean, confident in their ability to elevate its legacy.
This triumvirate, who also enjoyed success in the Rhône Valley, established Domaine l’Infernal in 2002. They diligently cultivated the Priorat vineyard, focusing on Mediterranean varietals like Grenache and Carignan, and became known as “true ambassadors of Priorat wine.”
The decision to sell the estate, they revealed, was influenced by health concerns and waning motivation. As they bid adieu, a ‘Farewell’ sales event for the last vintage of L’Infernal is anticipated, with details to be announced shortly from their base in Pont de L’Isère in the Rhône-Alpes region.
