Must-See in Bologna: The Fantastic Animals Exhibition at Palazzo Albergati
Fantastic Animals (Animali Fantastici) will be on display in Bologna from December 7, 2023 until May 5, 2024. The Wonder Garden The event will take place in Palazzo Albergati (via Saragozza n°28), which has been hosting over 100 pieces from this project as a global premiere for the past five months.
The Vision Behind Fantastic Animals: More Than Just an Exhibition
Fantastic Animals is an exhibition designed and curated by Gianluca Marziani and Stefano Antonelli, although it is much more than that at first glance. In reality, it marks a new frontier in entertainment, bringing together animals, art, magic, joy, and dreams. For this occasion, the museum is changed into a big open space where animals may discover their natural home in order to welcome a diverse audience.
Exploring the World’s First Artist’s Zoo
Over 90 animals designed by 23 prominent modern painters are housed at Palazzo Albergati. It is the world’s first artist’s zoo, with no cages or barriers, and is animated by paintings, sculptures, and installations of animals of all types.
The topic of animals in art has developed over time, with artists adjusting their method and the significance assigned to animals in their works. As a result, it is no longer just a passive element to be used, but an active subject to be participated in since seeing and reacting to animals helps us understand ourselves better.
Thus, the palace’s regal halls are transformed into a superzoo, allowing guests to embark on a walking safari through a fairy tale, where animals dwell in the most respectful of creative ecosystems.
In addition to the solo visit route, guided tours are provided for nursery and primary schools (which can be paired with a themed workshop), secondary schools, and people.
