Milroy’s Refocuses on Soho Venue: A Strategic Shift for London’s Oldest Whisky Specialist
The London-based whisky bar chain, Milroy’s, has decided to shut down its Spitalfields location to concentrate on its original Soho venue.
In celebration of its 60th anniversary in 2024, the company unveiled plans to significantly invest in enhancing its original Greek Street shop and bar, including the improvement of its online sales platform. Further information about these enhancements will be released in the upcoming months.
As a part of this strategic move, Milroy’s of Spitalfields bar, along with its associated venues the Proofing Room and the Dram Club, was closed on August 1st. The company reassured that there would be no forced layoffs, with all employees being provided opportunities within the company.
Stephen Worral, Milroy’s of Soho’s managing director, explained that the decisions were made to adapt to the evolving needs of their “increasingly international” clientele.
He emphasized the importance of honoring the company’s heritage while ensuring that the business is ready to cater to the shifting whisky market. Worral expressed gratitude towards the team’s efforts in Spitalfields and excitement about the future, including celebrating the company’s 60th anniversary in Soho and expanding their online offerings.
Established in 1964 by John ‘Jack’ Milroy, Milroy’s of Soho stands as London’s oldest independent whisky specialist. Hosting tastings and sales both in-person at its Greek Street location and online, the venue offers hundreds of whisky choices to aficionados.
