House of Suntory Marks Centennial with Exclusive Hibiki Releases
As it celebrates the centennial of Japan’s inaugural malt whisky distillery, Yamazaki, House of Suntory is rolling out two exclusive Hibiki releases.
The special edition Hibiki 21 Years Old, along with a limited-edition Hibiki Japanese Harmony bottle, are the latest gems from House of Suntory. These releases pay tribute to the distillery’s founder, Shinjiro Torii, and his groundbreaking establishment of the Yamazaki Distillery back in 1923.
First hitting shelves in 1989, Hibiki remains a dominant force in Japanese blended whiskies. The 100-year tribute Hibiki 21 Years Old blends malt and grain whiskies, featuring the nuanced influence of mizunara oak. Its label sports a sunrise-inspired color gradient.
Suntory’s Master Blender, Shinji Fukuyo, stated: “The limited-edition Hibiki 21 Years Old signifies our centennial commitment to masterful blending. We’ve harnessed the complex traits of mizunara oak, underscoring Hibiki’s distinctive flavors.”
The limited-edition Hibiki Japanese Harmony bottle is adorned with designs symbolizing Japan’s seasonal shifts, featuring snow, moon, and floral motifs.
Priced at £5,200 for a 700ml bottle, Hibiki 21 Years Old is set at 43% ABV. The Hibiki Japanese Harmony limited bottle, also 43% ABV, is tagged at £210. Both can be found at select retailers, including Harrods, Harvey Nichols, and The Whisky Shop.
These Hibiki releases join the centennial editions of Yamazaki 18 Years Old Mizunara and Hakushu 18 Years Old Peated Malt, as well as commemorative labels for Yamazaki and Hakushu’s flagship 12-year expressions.
