Glenglassaugh’s Serpentine Collection: A Half-Century Journey from Cask to Glass
Glenglassaugh Distillery proudly introduces the Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection, featuring three distinctive expressions. Each, originating from an exclusive single cask and showcased in individually numbered bottles, boasts a maturation period surpassing 48 years.
Revival of a Scottish Legacy
After a hiatus spanning over two decades, the distillery, nestled along the scenic Moray Firth coastline of Scotland, reopened in 2008. Upon its resurgence, Glenglassaugh unveiled a hidden treasure trove of casks, some aging gracefully for more than fifty years.
The Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection captures the essence of its maritime surroundings, reflecting the unique characteristics bestowed by the distillery’s seaside locale.
Master Blender’s Seal of Excellence
These casks were meticulously selected by Rachel Barrie, the master blender at Glenglassaugh. She remarks on the collection:
“The origin of our highly valued barrels may be traced prior to the 1970s, marking the commencement of the voyage for these exceptional alcoholic beverages. Patiently maturing, they’ve acquired a rich natural hue and a character of unparalleled depth, epitomizing the pinnacle of our single malt whisky.
“It’s exceedingly rare to encounter casks matured in coastal environments for such an extended period. Our warehouses, perched on the cliffs overlooking Sandend Bay, have safeguarded these ancient and extraordinary spirits for over half a century. These casks offer a window into the soul of whisky making at Glenglassaugh before its closure, capturing a moment in history like few others.”
Global Release and Exclusive Launch
The Serpentine Collection, after its inaugural launch today (January 22, 2024) in Singapore, will be globally available on allocation. Singapore was chosen for its deep appreciation of single malt Scotch whisky. Throughout the year, a limited series of casks will be progressively released into the collection.
