Glencadam Distillery Revives 18 Years Old Single Malt: A Return to Tradition and Taste
The renowned Glencadam distillery in Angus, with a history dating back to 1825, temporarily halted the production of its 18 Years Old Highland single malt. The pause was due to a scarcity of appropriately aged liquid, an issue Angus Dundee Distillers attributed to the facility being temporarily closed from 1999 to 2003.
However, with the arrival of new inventory, this well-liked age-statement expression is set to make its return. The reintroduced variant will augment Glencadam’s core collection of single malts, filling the space between its existing 15-year-old and 25-year-old single malts.
The 18 Years Old variety is aged in ex-bourbon casks and is packaged at 46% ABV. It comes unaltered by chill filtration and retains its natural hue.
Glencadam’s master distiller, Robert Fleming, expressed his satisfaction with the return of the expression, praising its balanced and creamy taste. He highlighted its complex and fruity palate, which leads to a smooth, warm, and enduring finish.
Starting 27 July, the Glencadam 18 Years Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky will be accessible globally through independent and specialist retailers in the UK, and also via Glencadam’s online store, priced at £145 for a 70cl bottle.
