Exclusive Auction of Prized Bordeaux Wines: A 1995 and 2000 Vintage Showcase
The esteemed blue-chip Bordeaux collection encompasses 75cl bottles, magnums, and double magnums, featuring luminaries of the Bordeaux region. These exceptional wines hail exclusively from the celebrated 1995 and 2000 vintages, with many presented in their original wooden cases. This selection originates from a singular private collection.
Highlighted lots boast prestigious names, including a case of 12 Lafite-Rothschild 2000 (estimated at €13,800), a case of 12 Cheval-Blanc 2000 (estimated at €10,200), and a half-case of L’Evangile 2000 (estimated at €1,860). A standout is the rare Carré d’As mixed case of twelve magnums, showcasing Châteaux Petrus, Latour, Haut-Brion, and Margaux from the 2000 vintage, priced at an estimated €32,000. Additional offerings include six- and twelve-bottle lots of Petrus, Latour, Haut Brion, and Margaux from 2000, set to be auctioned on 23 November.
This sale follows the collector’s decision to part with her 18th-century estate, which has long been the sanctuary for her exquisitely curated First Growths, acquired in 2001. Described as a “future icon” vintage and symbolic as the first wine of the new millennium, these selections represent a remarkable chapter in vinicultural history.
The wines have been preserved under impeccable conditions in a vaulted cellar, equipped with custom temperature and humidity control systems.
The 1995 Vintage: A year marked by a notably hot, dry summer, 1995 produced perfectly ripe grapes and a bountiful harvest. The châteaux capitalized on these conditions to meticulously select grapes and control yields, leading to “highly consistent wines, rich, unctuous, and perfectly-balanced,” as per iDealwine’s assessment. This vintage stands out particularly for wines with a high proportion of Merlot, especially from Pomerol and Saint Emilion.
The 2000 Vintage: Termed “spectacular,” this year favored the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in wines characterized by a deep color, concentrated fruit flavors, ripe tannins, and a remarkably long finish.
