Buffalo Trace Unveils Eagle Rare 25: A New Pinnacle in Luxury Bourbon
Buffalo Trace Elevates Bourbon Craft with Eagle Rare 25: A Luxury Expression
Buffalo Trace once again pioneers luxury Bourbon, unveiling Eagle Rare 25, the oldest and most exquisite iteration in the Eagle Rare collection.
As the inaugural release from Warehouse P — one of Buffalo Trace’s experimental sites — this Bourbon explores how diverse factors like barrel char levels and ambient conditions affect aging and maturation.
Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley explains, “Kentucky’s unique climate triggers two significant reactions over time: heightened evaporation, known as the angel’s share, and intensified barrel flavor extraction. Typically, this leads older whiskeys to taste overly oaked and astringent. However, Warehouse P’s distinct aging conditions have birthed a 25-year-old Bourbon that tempers these extractions, showcasing the sought-after flavors inherent in ultra-aged American whiskey.”
Eagle Rare 25, boasting a robust 50.5% ABV, is priced at US$10,000 (£8,200). Only about 200 bottles will be distributed globally, available at select retailers, restaurants, and bars.
Marking its quarter-century milestone, each bottle is a work of art, featuring a hand-hammered sterling silver wing enveloping a hand-blown crystal decanter.
Warehouse P was specially constructed to test the boundaries of American whiskey and Bourbon maturation. Since Bourbon mandates new charred oak barrels, the general consensus has been that optimal aging peaks around 12 years, with longer durations risking an overbearing wood influence.
Wheatley comments, “Eagle Rare 25 challenges the traditional boundaries of Bourbon aging. Meticulously monitored throughout its maturation, this whiskey exemplifies optimal maturity — a harmonious blend of smoothness and complexity, with profound, well-rounded flavors.”
Eagle Rare 25 joins the brand’s distinguished array, including the staple Eagle Rare 10-year-old, Double Eagle Very Rare, and the annual fall release, Eagle Rare 17-year-old, part of the sought-after Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. The 2023 Eagle Rare 17 was previously the oldest at 19 years and three months.
