Bladnoch Distillery Shatters Tradition with Peated Collection: A Quartet of Unconventional Lowland Whiskies
Bladnoch Distillery bursts onto the scene with its groundbreaking Peated Collection, a quartet of Lowland single malt whiskies that shatter conventional norms.
This annual collection features a Reserve version of Alinta, the distillery’s lone peated expression to date, and three single cask expressions matured in sherry, rum, and bourbon casks. Notably, this collection draws from Bladnoch’s 2009 stocks, which are uniquely 100% peated, a rarity both for the distillery and the Lowland region.
Alinta, which means ‘fire’ or ‘flames’ in Indigenous Australian languages, was a game-changer, and Bladnoch’s master distiller, Dr. Nick Savage, wants to keep that fire alive. “The Peated Collection,” he says, “is an annual tribute to the unique and rare 2009 stocks at Bladnoch, broadening our smoky portfolio based on the tremendous reception to Alinta.”
As for the specifics, the 2023 Alinta Reserve is matured in Amontillado sherry hogsheads and is unleashed in a limited batch of 2,000 bottles. The other three, each a single cask marvel, boast varying ABVs and bottle counts, ensuring they’ll become collector’s items.
To top it off, every whisky in the Peated Collection is bottled non-chill filtered and with natural color. Global aficionados can find Alinta Reserve in several markets, while the UK exclusive single casks will be available through Bladnoch.com starting October 23.
