A Wine Lover’s Paradise: Torano Nuovo’s Unmissable Festival
The town, which is small in size but large in vitality, has earned an important putative title; in fact, the press has nicknamed it “Capital of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.” In the highly anticipated 53rd edition of Sagra di Torano Nuovo, which will take place from August 12 to 17, 2024, people worship wine in its purest form, combining a love for the past with respect for tradition.
If mathematics does not deceive us, we count a period of six days during which we eat, drink, and have fun in the shade of the loving buildings that surround the historic center area, which is very beautiful, especially when it is filled with tourists. I wander around looking for beauties for the eyes and pleasures for the palate.
The turnout regularly records record numbers; in fact, up to 80,000 visitors are expected for this edition too. The festival has been in vogue since 1969 thanks to the work of the Pro Loco in collaboration with Asscomm Torano-PPaese del Gusto, which opens the doors of 10 selected cellars where you can taste wines—mainly Montepulciano DOC and Trebbiano—on the advice of professional sommeliers.
During the oldest festival in Abruzzo, typical Abruzzo products, such as pecorino cheese fried in batter, are offered, and with your mouth full, there will naturally be room for musical entertainment in the city squares.
