Castagneto Carducci: Where Natural Beauty Meets Historical Splendor
Castagneto Carducci is one of the Tuscan villages in the province of Livorno. It is surrounded by a thick forest of chestnut trees that are hundreds of years old. Its streets, which are full of small historical and artistic treasures, echo with the verses of the poet who lived here as a child for a few years.
But the town is much bigger than that. With almost 9,000 people and a beautiful location in the middle of the Tuscan Maremma, Castagneto Carducci is one of the most popular places to visit on the so-called “Etruscan Coast.”

Also worth seeing are the church of Santissimo Crocifisso, which was built in the 16th century and rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in 1912. In the hamlets of Castagneto, especially in Bolgheri, where the famous avenue of cypress trees stands, which Carducci wrote about in his famous ode “Davanti San Guido,” there are more pleasant surprises.
At the top of the avenue is the Castle of Bolgheri, which dates back to the Middle Ages but has been renovated several times over the years. At the entrance to the town is the church of Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo, which is one of the oldest buildings in the area but was renovated at the start of the 20th century.

La Marina

How to get there
There are a number of ways to get to Castagneto Carducci. The Via Aurelia goes through the town from north to south, and the Rosignano Marittimo exit on the A12 is the closest highway exit.
The local train station is in the small town of Donoratico, which is on the route from Livorno to Grosseto to Rome. The Bolgheri station is in the nearby town of Bibbona. There are airports in Pisa, which is about 75 km away, and Florence, which is about 160 km away.
