Lionel Messi Scores in the Wine World with His Signature Collection
In late 2023, football legend Lionel Messi ventured into the world of viticulture, introducing his exclusive wine range. As reported by Wine-Searcher, this venture is a collaborative effort with the renowned Geneva-based MM Winemaker, gaining traction through Messi’s personal promotion on Instagram. The crafting of these wines is entrusted to the skilled Italian winemaker, Marco Maci.
The “Lionel GOAT 10” Series
At the forefront of Messi’s collection is the “Lionel GOAT 10” range, a nod to his iconic jersey number and the acronym GOAT, meaning “Greatest Of All Time” – a title once bestowed upon legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. This series features varietal wines from diverse Italian IGT regions, spanning from Apulia to Veneto, and includes a distinguished Prosecco DOC. The lineup, consisting of Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Prosecco, is priced at €32 per bottle, with other selections in this range available for €39 each.
The “Lionel Titanium Collection”
Elevating the experience, the “Lionel Titanium Collection” encompasses a Primitivo IGT Puglia and a Syrah IGT Sicilia, each carrying a price tag of €110. These wines represent the mid-tier of Messi’s offerings, blending quality with exclusivity.
The Elite “Lionel Diamond Collection”
At the pinnacle lies the “Lionel Diamond Collection”, a super-premium segment featuring a Taurasi DOCG and an Aglianico del Sannio DOC, both hailing from Campania and priced at €495 per bottle. This collection embodies the zenith of luxury and taste.
A Winemaker with a Star-Studded Portfolio
Marco Maci’s clientele list is as illustrious as it gets, previously serving other luminaries like Argentina’s football icon Diego Armando Maradona, Pope John Paul II, actor Tom Hanks, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Notably, Maradona too had the honor of having a dedicated wine line crafted by Maci.
