Waterboys and Chris Long Foundation Transform Lives in Kenya with Groundbreaking Well Project
In the summer of 2023, the Oloile community in Kajiado County, Kenya, witnessed a monumental change. A collaboration between The Chris Long Foundation and its Kenyan implementing partner, Well Aware, led to the creation of a deep borehole well. This engineering feat, reaching a depth of 80 meters, now provides a staggering 100,000 liters of water daily.
Sustainable Infrastructure Development
By November, the project saw further advancements with the construction of a storage tank, distribution facilities, and a refillable water trough. These additions are pivotal for the well’s ongoing effectiveness, ensuring both maintenance and sustainability for years to come.
Chris Long’s Visionary Impact
Chris Long, two-time Superbowl champion and founder of Waterboys, expressed his gratitude for the support from Ross & Squibb Distillery. “This project is more than just providing water; it symbolizes hope, health, and a brighter future for a community that has endured water scarcity for decades. We’re witnessing a transformation, with clean water catalyzing improvements in health, education, and economic stability,” he stated.
Home to over 100 households, a primary school, and approximately 1,600 residents, Oloile has long grappled with a critical water crisis. Unpredictable rainy seasons and prolonged droughts, lasting up to two years, have plagued the region. However, the recent efforts have dramatically shifted Oloile from a community in dire need to one flourishing with water availability.
Ross & Squibb’s Commitment to Change
Allison O’Brien, Brand Manager for Ross & Squibb, reflected on the profound impact of their partnership with Waterboys and The Chris Long Foundation. “It’s a privilege to be part of such a transformative initiative. Our experience in managing a clean water source for our distillery in Indiana has fueled our dedication to ensuring safe water access globally. We eagerly anticipate future endeavors to extend this life-changing mission.”
