Johnnie Walker Celebrates Lunar New Year with James Jean’s Zodiac-Inspired Limited Edition
Johnnie Walker has unveiled a striking limited-edition label, masterfully crafted by prominent Asian-American artist James Jean. In a grand celebration of this artistic partnership, Diageo Global Travel is spearheading a dynamic digital campaign across international travel retail outlets. This campaign is making waves in major airports, including Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Hainan, and Hong Kong.
Zodiac-Inspired Artistry
The centerpiece of this label is Jean’s unique portrayal of the 2024 Zodiac animal, the dragon. Drawing from the ancient art of Chinese scroll paintings, Jean infuses a modern twist into his creation. His recent contributions include eye-catching promotional posters for several major Hollywood productions. The inspiration behind this exquisite design stems from Emma Walker, a master blender, and her team’s exceptional craft in producing the renowned Johnnie Walker Blue Label. This premium whisky is a blend of some of the rarest whiskies, including selections from historic ‘ghost’ distilleries.
A Symbol of Creativity and Progress
Joao Matos, Johnnie Walker’s global marketing and innovation director, eloquently describes the design: “James Jean’s remarkable interpretation of the Wood Dragon for Johnnie Walker Blue Label Lunar New Year epitomizes the harmony of tradition and innovation. Johnnie Walker’s ethos of continuous progress, captured in our ‘Keep Walking’ spirit, resonates with James’ artistry, which skillfully marries reverence for history with a forward-thinking vision. His dragon, an artistic marvel crafted from flowers and organic elements, stands as a testament to the power of creativity and connection. This Lunar New Year, we are excited to commemorate the Year of the Dragon with this exceptional, limited-edition design.”
Expanding Artistic Horizons
Jean’s creative prowess extends to designing the Lunar New Year artwork for the John Walker & Sons XR 21 label. All of Johnnie Walker’s Lunar New Year limited-edition designs are now available in select markets around the globe.
