Tamworth Tap Reigns Supreme: UK’s Best Pub for Second Year
The Tamworth Tap, steered by George and Louise Greenaway, has clinched the title of the UK’s best pub for the second consecutive year, a testament to its exceptional beer selection and vibrant community role.
Last year marked the first time this West Midlands gem rose to prominence, and it has since continued its winning streak against formidable contenders from Kent, Yorkshire, and the Isle of Man, solidifying its place at the pinnacle of CAMRA’s rankings.
Laura Emson, CAMRA’s awards director, praised the pub’s remarkable consistency: “Achieving the title of the UK’s best pub two years running is an extraordinary accomplishment. The Tamworth Tap is the embodiment of CAMRA’s mission, meriting double commendation for its entire team.”
Central to CAMRA’s mission of promoting real ale, The Tamworth Tap features eight hand pulls showcasing a selection from the in-house Tamworth Brewing Company, along with various other distinguished brews. Beyond the taps, the pub has garnered accolades for its community engagement through events like the ‘Barrel of Laughs’ comedy nights, ‘Sunday Session’ live music, and
its traditional annual wassail, each event drawing locals and visitors alike into a vibrant social tapestry.
The Greenaways, still elated from their win, shared, “We’re at a loss for words. The realization of our first victory took time to settle in, and retaining the title is just astounding! We promised to keep evolving, aiming to deliver an unparalleled drinking experience to all who enter.”
They further emphasized their community-centric vision, “We’re more than just a pub; we’re a communal nexus. It’s about knitting people together and serving that perfect pint – that’s the crux of our ethos.”
