RD1 Distillery Revamps Lexington’s Bourbon Scene with New Flagship at The Commons
The newest addition to Lexington’s vibrant entertainment hub, The Commons, is set to be the groundbreaking RD1 Distillery. This upcoming site, spanning a grand 10,215 square feet, promises to redefine RD1’s presence by more than doubling its current facilities on Manchester Road in Lexington.
Featuring a state-of-the-art 800-gallon pot still alongside a smaller 175-gallon pot still, the distillery is gearing up for innovation with a 750-gallon fermenter and a massive 1,000-gallon mash cooker. Although the facility aims to produce one barrel per week for research and development purposes, the bulk of RD1 Spirits’ Bourbon production will continue under the expertise of master distiller Jacob Call at Western Kentucky Distilling in Beaver Dam, Kentucky.

The facility boasts four private tasting rooms, a VIP speakeasy tasting room, and a cutting-edge, glass-enclosed wood finishing research and development lab. The space also features a cocktail bar, a gift shop, and versatile areas for private events. Adding to the allure, the two-story structure includes inviting outdoor seating areas on both levels.

Preserving Lexington’s Distilling Heritage
Founded in 2020, RD1 – short for Registered Distillery One – has been dedicated to narrating the story of Lexington’s pioneering Bourbon entrepreneurs. With its products currently available in 16 states and plans to expand to 25 by 2024, RD1 is at the forefront of Kentucky’s Bourbon renaissance.
As the Bourbon industry continues to thrive, challenges remain, highlighted by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association’s recent report of a nearly 30% tax hike on Kentucky barrels in 2023.
