Lagavulin Bids Farewell to Icon Iain McArthur with Exclusive 18-Year-Old Release
The End of an Era at Lagavulin
Iain McArthur, the esteemed warehouse manager at Lagavulin, is bidding farewell to a distinguished career spanning over half a century in the whisky industry.
McArthur’s journey began at Port Ellen Distillery on Islay, followed by a remarkable tenure at Lagavulin. There, he dedicated himself to various roles, from peat cutting to managing the distillery’s cherished casks, and became a familiar face to visitors during warehouse tastings.
Iain’s Farewell Dram: A Tribute to a Whisky Virtuoso
In honor of McArthur’s retirement, Lagavulin is unveiling Iain’s Farewell Dram. This exclusive 18-year-old Lagavulin single malt was casked by McArthur himself and has matured gracefully in second-fill Manzanilla sherry casks. Bottled at a potent 58.7% ABV, it’s priced at £350 per bottle.
Reflecting on his legacy, McArthur shared, “Being a part of the Lagavulin family has been an extraordinary journey. While I’m ready for new horizons, the 18-year-old dram evokes cherished memories and celebratory moments of my life. It’s my hope that those who cherish this distillery as deeply as I do will find the same joy in this special bottle.”
A mere 18 bottles of this collector’s edition will be available directly from the distillery. Fans and collectors should stay tuned to Lagavulin and malts.com social media for updates on how to secure this rare piece of whisky history.
