Australia’s Fiery Trial: Heatwave Alert as Temperatures Soar to a Scorching 47°C
Australia is on high alert for soaring temperatures, potentially reaching an extreme 47°C in the coming days and into the following week.
This intense heatwave is attributed to twin pressure systems locking in heat across the nation, per the Bureau of Meteorology‘s severe heatwave warning.
New South Wales is poised to experience the fiercest heat, though much of inland Australia won’t be spared.
Senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury of 9 News explained, “Typically in Australia, heat builds up but is then dispelled by strong cold fronts in southern Australia. However, this time around, the high pressure is trapping the heat over the continent, recirculating and intensifying it.”
Weatherzone forecasts that Oodnadatta, a town in South Australia, will endure scorching temperatures of 44°C, 45°C, and 46°C through Friday.
Other South Australian locales, such as Tarcoola, Marree, and Oak Valley, are expected to hit 47°C at least once before week’s end.
Meanwhile, Sydney anticipates a relatively milder 35°C.
As global warming escalates, such extreme and unprecedented weather events are sadly becoming more frequent.
