2023’s abundant harvest, following the exceptional 2022 yield, brought joy to the hearts of Bourgonne’s winegrowers and merchants. The BIVB gleefully reported near-full cellars and consistently high-quality production. The summer’s erratic weather patterns didn’t dampen the maturation of the Chardonnay, Aligoté, and Sauvignon grapes, which ripened to perfection, maintaining the freshness that Bourgogne white wines are celebrated for.
Pinot Noir: Selective Excellence
While dealing with a generous bounty of Pinot Noir grapes, vintners meticulously sorted through the harvest, discarding any compromised fruits. This diligent selection process paid off, yielding extraordinarily fine juices with a wide spectrum of aromas. According to the BIVB, both the red and white wines from this year possess an expressive, fruity character and beautifully aromatic profiles.

June and July’s weather was unpredictable, with July alternating between thunderstorms, high temperatures, and humidity. Hailstorms in mid-July did cause localized damage in certain areas, but the region largely remained unaffected. The pre-harvest period in August was marked by sunny conditions and high temperatures, prompting many winegrowers to harvest during cooler night hours or early mornings to maintain grape freshness.
