Speyside Distillers’ Bold Expansion: Crafting the Future of Whisky and Gin in the Heart of Scotland
Speyside Distillers, renowned for their single malt whisky and gin, operates the illustrious Speyside Distillery near Kingussie, nestled in the tranquil foothills of Cairngorms National Park. Crafting the esteemed Spey and Beinn Dubh whisky brands, alongside Byron’s Gin, the company stands as a beacon of quality and tradition.
Their latest venture unfolds in Laggan, close to the Spey Dam, unfolding a comprehensive plan featuring a marketing suite, distillery, powerhouse, offices, and maturation warehouses. This strategic move will centralize the entire production process, fortifying their bond with the iconic River Spey.
The growth and expansion of Speyside Distillers Company is evident. Outgrowing its original home, this new site is not just a spatial upgrade but a step towards enhanced sustainability, allowing on-site whisky maturation.
The Cairngorms National Park Authority‘s planning committee greenlit this ambitious project, aiming to reduce travel across the Central Belt of Scotland significantly. Katherine Donnachie, a park authority planning officer, praised the initiative. She highlighted the project’s potential in securing a sustainable future and safeguarding local employment, all while harmonizing with the landscape and respecting the area’s cultural and historical significance.
This development, first announced in January 2021, marks Speyside Distillers‘ commitment to growth and innovation, with plans for a second single malt distillery in the region already unveiled.
