Deadly Sakura: The Onikishi Whisky That’s Shaking Up the Spirit World with Cherry Blossom Swagger
Deadly Sakura, the latest evolution of the Onikishi brand, hits the scene with a cherry blossom cask twist. This fresh Japanese whisky features killer geisha assassin artwork, delivering aesthetics as striking as its flavor.
Unveiled at TWFA in Cannes, the spirit has stormed Duty Free across the Americas via Blue Caterpillar, capitalizing on the post-Covid surge in Global Travel Retail demand.
Michael Gebrael, CEO of Blue Caterpillar, states: “Adding Onikishi to our roster of premium spirits is a no-brainer. In a market hungry for Japanese whisky, Onikishi dominates, satisfying the high-end tastes of our global travel clientele.”
Infused with the symbolism of cherry blossoms—a cultural cornerstone in Japan—Milestone Beverages aims to capitalize on the rising appetite for thematic, craft spirits.
Damith Weerakoon, the brains behind Onikishi, cuts to the chase: “Japanese whisky’s initial boom alienated many fans of Japanese pop culture. Onikishi fills that void. Forget cheap knock-offs; we deliver an authentic, affordable experience that keeps the culture front and center and leaves you wanting more.”
The brand’s distribution network has exploded, thanks in part to a strategic partnership with the Amsterdam Warehouse Company in Europe. Initially launched with Flemingo in MENA, Onikishi is now available in nearly 50 countries, and there’s no stopping there—plans are in motion to expand into 100 countries in the near future.
