Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Lock Horns with Master Brew Ventures in Battle for Wrexham Name
According to the Daily Star, Pennsylvania-based Master Brew Ventures is gunning for U.S. legal rights to the Wrexham beer name. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s own Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, co-owners of Wrexham, have locked down a slew of UK trademarks via their holding company R.R. McReynolds. Names like It’s Always Sunny in Wrexham, R&R Lager, and Max Effort Lager are now under their umbrella.
They didn’t stop at UK soil. They’ve claimed U.S. trademarks for Wrexham FC 1864 and Wrexham is the Name. An application for Welcome to Wrexham is also in the pipeline with the US Patent and Trademark Office. UK protection? Secured for a decade.
In 2020, Reynolds cashed in on his Aviation Gin, selling it to Diageo for a cool £500 million. Now, he’s looping in his wife Blake Lively’s Betty Buzz and Betty Booze brands as Wrexham sponsors. Lively even showcased three Wrexham players in a U.S. online ad campaign, branding it a “friendly competition” during Wrexham AFC’s U.S. pre-season tour.
Flashback to 2021, Reynolds and McElhenney toasted their Wrexham takeover with a limited-edition Aviation American Gin x Wrexham Association Football Club bottle.
