Unveiling Liquid Gold: An Exclusive Tasting of Shirakawa 1958 with Tomatin Distillery
Robert Graham has teamed up with Tomatin Distillery for an unprecedented tasting event at The New Club Edinburgh on October 6, spotlighting the Tomatin and Shirakawa brands.
Shirakawa 1958, an exclusive single malt from the defunct Japanese distillery Shirakawa, was initially crafted for blends. This one-of-a-kind malt was born from a collaboration between Tomatin and Takara Shuzo.
This scarce offering is the distillery’s only single malt release and is confined to just 1,500 bottles worldwide, boasting a 49% ABV.
Stephen Bremner, Tomatin’s Managing Director, stated: “After acquiring Tomatin in 1986, Takara Shuzo’s story of Shirakawa captured my imagination. The distillery had vanished, but what if remnants of its liquid gold remained? In 2019, the last existing batch of Shirakawa, distilled in 1958, was unearthed. It was an electrifying revelation, spotlighting the rarity of this liquid treasure.”
Japanese whisky expert Stefan van Eycken added: “Shirakawa 1958 is unparalleled in its claim as a Single Vintage Japanese Whisky. This limited release will further elevate the already-coveted Japanese Whisky category.”
The soiree kicks off with a champagne welcome, followed by a curated cigar and drink pairing. Scott Adamson will spearhead a Tomatin Masterclass, navigating guests through three select, aged Tomatin whiskies. The evening’s showstopper will be the unveiling of the elusive Shirakawa 1958.
