Samuel Gulliver & Co. Toasts Rugby Legends with ‘The Fine Drop
Samuel Gulliver & Co., an English whisky distillery, has unveiled “The Fine Drop” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup victory. This special release commemorates the last-minute drop goal by Johnny Wilkinson that clinched the win against Australia.
Crafted from Concerto barley and distilled by the English Whisky Company in Norfolk, The Fine Drop boasts a unique twist: it’s part-matured in ex-red wine casks from Margaux, Bordeaux. This marks Samuel Gulliver as the first English whisky brand to employ Margaux casks for finishing.
This new offering will accompany Samuel Gulliver’s No. 6 single malt as an official whisky of England Rugby.
Stuart Gulliver, the distillery’s founder, expressed his enthusiasm: “Launching The Fine Drop is a landmark moment for us. This exquisite English whisky salutes the iconic play that made England world champions in rugby. Having spent 50 years in rugby, both playing and coaching—including some of the current World Cup team—this partnership with England Rugby is a personal triumph for me and my rugby-playing sons.”
Bottled at 46% ABV and presented without chill filtration or artificial coloring, The Fine Drop retails for £79 and is available through samuelgulliver.com and select specialty stores.
