Pinot Grigio Unterebner 2015 Review And Tasting Notes

The Pinot Grigio Unterebner 2015 is one of the great classics of the Termeno winery, a social winery that puts excellent care in every wine it produces. You know those thick, salty, fresh, elegant Pinot Grigio, but with that slightly woody and spicy aftertaste?
This Pinot Grigio is a successful mix of the minerality of the Dolomites, the aromaticity of South Tyrolean white wines, and that touch of aging in wood that makes the wines more mature and spicy.
Just wait a few hours and let it breathe in the glass, and this Pinot Grigio will give you great satisfaction.
How Is Pinot Grigio Unterebner 2015 Produced?
The grapes come from a vineyard located 450 meters above sea level, where temperature ranges and pebbly soils help fix the aromas to develop minerality and great finesse in the wine. It is vinified in wood and then aged in large barrels and 20% in barrique, where the malolactic process occurs. Although it is pretty vanilla and spicy-driven, the mysterious and smoky charm of Pinot Grigio tolerates this treatment gracefully. The result is a very complex wine, a little built and stylized, but overall very pleasant.
The bouquet
The nose is an explosive kaleidoscope with yellow fruit, pears dipped in honey, acacia, candied citron, broom, aromatic herbs, and endless flowers. The stroke is intense, sumptuous, fleshy, you can feel the wood, but it is not too bad. It certainly takes away naturalness and liveliness, but overall it is varied and quite integrated. Good persistence.
The taste
It explodes in an explosion of rocks and citrus fruits in the mouth. It has rhythm and is supported by remarkable sapid propulsion, which not even the coils of honey, vanilla, and butter of the barriques can obscure. The structure is impressive, the fruit is ripe, but the acidity is always ready to intervene to play down the contrast.
The alcohol content is also no joke, and from the second sip, it makes itself felt. The heat is omnipresent but well-tempered. Overall it is reactive despite the cornucopia of spices, aromas, flavors, and aromatic layers that follow one another.
It is a full-bodied wine well defined by density and wood, so it is not remarkably frank or typical, but it is pretty snappy and is never heavy, cloying, or slave to its aromatic setting. The wood is massive but credible, and then it is so salty that it emerges with arrogance in any case.
It is an interpretation built with great care, attention to detail, and high-quality raw material, but not everyone will like it, especially those looking for wines without too many frills.
