Aglianico Del Vulture Caselle 2011 D’Angelo Review And Tasting Notes
The Aglianico del Vulture Caselle 2011 D’Angelo winery is an imposing and sumptuous wine, one of those reds that brighten up the evening, especially if you combine it with a Florentine or succulent meat-based food.
It is a full-bodied wine with ripe and mottled fruit, dense but never too muscular or cooked: the spices, the flavor, and the balsamic tones enrich, smooth, and give elegance to a material of the highest quality, but despite being 2011, the tannins are still vigorous.
It is not an aperitif wine, it is proudly carnivorous, but this does not mean that it is a wine without finesse!
The production of the D’Angelo winery is artisanal, the bottles produced of this Aglianico del Vulture Riserva Caselle 2011 are few and all very well cared for. Selection of the best company crus, maceration for 15 days and then two years in large barrels, as tradition dictates.
A long refinement follows: the result is a full and tasty wine with a strong personality. But this is known, to taste a good Aglianico, it takes years. All this extract, the tannins, and the flavor must blend and round off. And although it is a ready wine, with 5 years in the cellar, we will have a fabulous wine. In 10, the evolution will be even more suggestive. In 15, the balsamic notes will be pure poetry.
The bouquet
Austere and ripe nose alternating cherries in alcohol, thyme, graphite, rosemary, eucalyptus, and splendid aromas of cedar. The flowers are already dry and tending to roses wrapped in ethereal and mineral scents. Cocoa and licorice in the finish.
The taste
It is very consistent and typical in the mouth with pulpy fruit, nuanced and never mushy, tasty and well-designed tannins, sapid extension, and then balsamic finish of a promising thoroughbred.
Price
Twenty-five euros is an excellent price for an excellent quality wine.
Food Pairings
BBQ recipes, tacos, black truffle risotto, passatelli with Parmigiano fondue and truffle, bucatini all’amatriciana, roast beef, hamburger.
