2019 Mansano Vino Bianco Denavolo: the review of an amazing natural orange wine

The 2019 Mansano Vino Bianco Denavolo is an all-encompassing elixir, a warm, enveloping, full wine with a thousand faces. Do not expect the usual bland Sauvignon Blanc with the pyrazines fired at full throttle, but a rainbow of complex, layered flavors and aromas that are also not easy to read at first sight.

It takes time to let it breathe, and it should not be drunk too cold, but once you taste it, you will realize the depth of this jewel of Piacenza enology. Pulp, salt, and light but precise tannins give structure and help to articulate a suggestive aromatic framework.

How is it produced?

The vines are over 30 years old and are on the opposite side of those that produce the legendary Denavolo. In the field, only copper and sulfur. Spontaneous fermentation, 10 months maceration in steel. No sulfites are added, and the wine is neither filtered nor clarified.

Organoleptic characteristics

The nose is fleshy, sinuous, and played on an intense floral charm. Lots of fruit, a drizzle of spices, and almost resinous balsamic returns. In the finish, delicate yeast and marzipan. The tone is rocky, inviting, and rustic yet clean profile.

On the palate, it is full-bodied, sculpted in a slab of salt. Due to the extended maceration, the tannins give vigor, adding a delicate nuance of licorice and anise. The structure is good, the drinkability is good, and it flows sharply without ever running into softness. Not very alcoholic, but the thickness is given by the triad of acid, minerality, and tannins.

Price

18 euros: an honest price for an excellent orange wine that upgrades the category of Sauvignon Blanc in summer lemonade style and adds the third gustatory dimension.
