Berry Bros & Rudd Celebrates 325 Years with Exclusive Laphroaig 1999 Release
Berry Bros & Rudd, a renowned wine and spirits merchant, commemorates its 325th anniversary with the launch of a distinctive Laphroaig 1999 whisky. The chair of Berry Bros, Lizzy Rudd, handpicked this single malt from Islay’s Laphroaig distillery, signifying a three-decade journey of maturation since 1999.
Rudd remarked, “To honor our 325th anniversary, it was imperative to present something extraordinarily special. This exclusive Laphroaig bottling embodies our enduring dedication to offering only the finest spirits.”
Esteemed for its ‘depth, complexity, and character’, the whisky is characterized by a diverse palette of aromas and flavors, ranging from pineapple and coal soot to mango, complemented by a peaty smokiness and tropical taste. The enduring finish reveals ‘subtle vanilla, spice, and bonfire ash’.
With a limited edition of just 232 bottles, this exceptional whisky is available on the Berry Bros & Rudd website for £800 (US$1010).
Rob Whitehead, spirits buyer at Berry Bros & Rudd, explained the selection process, “Occasionally, a single barrel distinctly stands out. It becomes our duty to find the perfect moment for its brilliance to be fully appreciated.”
He further added, “Diligently tasting a specially earmarked cask over several years allows us to determine the ideal age for bottling, capturing the whisky at its peak. This barrel, fortuitously, reached its zenith right as we were celebrating our 325th anniversary.”
