The Queens cocktail is part of the group of cocktails dedicated to the New York neighborhoods, including the Manhattan, the Bronx, the Brooklyn. But what is special about this iconic drink, but practically unknown in Italy and why should we drink it?

Because it is an exceptional drink, dry, aromatic, with a delicious flavor that oscillates between fruity and herbaceous, without ever breaking down and always remaining very agile.

The ingredients of the Queens cocktail are simple: gin, dry and sweet vermouth, pineapple juice. The combination is splendid: bitter and sweet flavors chase each other with the sumptuous and tropical elegance of the pineapple to act as a canvas on which to paint a thousand brushstrokes.

The original recipe for the Queens cocktail can be found once again in Harry Craddock’s bible: The Savoy Cocktail Book, where however Harry leaves us a recipe with only a piece of crushed pineapple and not the juice. You do as you like, as with the Bronx cocktail, an extra drop of juice helps develop incredible aromas and flavors. Otherwise, just put a piece of pineapple in the shaker and pound. If you want to make pineapple juice, obviously use an extractor and not industrial juices. If you don’t have an extractor, mash 1 slice of pineapple in a colander with a wooden spoon. To return to the Manhattan discourse, from which all these variations come, we can say that Queens is a Manhattan perfect with gin instead of whiskey and the addition of pineapple. Enjoy!
